Cupping Coffee with Company

Last Thursday 23rd March the team at Sunshine Coast Coffee Roastery opened the doors of the Roastery to host our first cupping coffee with company event. The event featured an amazing line up of unique coffees from Brills Coffee, The Flags and Yard Bird Coffee all with their own experience for our guests. And what can we say… we loved and appreciated every coffee.

First up, we tried Brill Coffee's Renato Rodrigues Cup of Excellence #6 from Brazil, and wow, it was like a warm hug in a cup. With its rich notes of honeydew, caramel, brown sugar and tropical acidity, it was a perfect start to our evening. Next from Brills Coffee was the Colombia El Jardin, which had a more fruity (peach and apricot) and milk chocolate taste followed by the sweet and delicate Rwanda Nyarusiza coffee boasting flavours of grapefruit, redcurrant and hazelnut. Our community agreed it was summer in a cup.

Then came The Flags Coffee Roaster's lineup, and we were treated to three very unique coffees, transporting us to their countries of origin. First up was the Colombia El Hato which had a nutty flavor that was so smooth, it felt like velvet on the tongue. The Rwanda Nkara Peaberry was next with a burst of citrusy mango and floral notes, another perfect summer coffee. We finished this line up with a bold coffee from Brazil (Jean Vilhena Lot 48) rich in flavour and a hint of caramel that made us feel like we were indulging in a decadent dessert.

To finish the event was the line up from Yard Bird Coffee Roaster who showcased their Colombia El Paraiso 92, which they roasted in two different styles. The first roast featured bright yellow and green stonefruit and sparkling natural wine flavours whilst the second roast had a deep, sweet purple berries flavour that rounded off the evening perfectly.

Throughout the cupping process, we had so much fun working together to decipher the different tasting notes and trying to figure out which coffee was our personal favourite. It was fascinating to see how each coffee had a unique profile, and how the roasting style impacts the final product.

A huge thank you to Brill Coffee, The Flags Coffee, and Yard Bird Coffee for allowing us to sample and appreciate your selected coffees. We are very appreciative to have access to these unique coffees and be able to collaborate with other local coffee roasters and coffee enthusiasts to learn, share and appreciate more about our industry. Building a community through coffee is what these events are all about… oh and of course sampling great coffee. Each month we hope to build on this coffee community and open our doors to create an open environment to collaborate and share our passion for great coffee and great vibes.
